The Dark Flowers were formed by songwriter/producer Paul Statham  (Dido, Peter Murphy, Simple Minds and B-Movie) after reading Sam Shepards book of prose/poetry 'Motel Chronicles', about the American Mid West and the strange characters that inhabit the run down desert towns and old motels, whilst listening to the 1973 soundtrack album 'The Hired Hand' by Bruce Langhorne. With a desire to combine the 2 influences he sent pages of the book and his own eerie desert soundscapes to artists/singers that he had been co writing with over many years including Simple Minds Jim Kerr, ex Bauhaus and solo star Peter Murphy, Massive Attack's Dot Allison, Indie songstress Catherine AD aka The Anchoress, Mercury nominated Helicopter Girl, alt folk artist Shelly Poole and Norwegian electro artist Kate Havnevik. The resultant album 'Radioland', signed to alt country label Lojinx received fantastic press reviews across the world of music with Mojo describing it as 'the perfect album for a lonely winters eve' and Rolling Stone “unfolds a subtle magic…a soundtrack without a film.” A new album 'Indian Summer' is recorded and also features Gabriella Cilmi and Bauhaus bassist and solo artist David J as well as Jim Kerr, Shelly Poole and The Anchoress from the 1st album.  a new EP 'Death and Desire' of dark Murder Ballad covers was released March 19th 2021 featuring 4 tracks and 4 vocalists from the new album, David J, Gabriella Cilmi, The Anchoress and Shelly Poole.
